About the event
(September 28th, 2022, 6 pm) Compositions and Kilowatts: This September, Columbia Springs will host a brand new event: a concert in the woods with environmental writer and composer Ben Cosgrove, on a stage backlit by upcycled antiques transformed into functional lamps.
This will be the culminating event of our Repair Clark County upcycled ReLit Festival. The lamps, created from items like an antique toaster or blender, are reminders of our ability to cross sustainability and beauty, showcasing the value of art and creativity. Lamps will be available for auction, with all proceeds supporting the programs of Columbia Springs. Tickets are on sale now!
The music of Ben Cosgrove, which explores themes of landscape, place, and environment, will delight and surprise the audience. A traveling composer-performer, Ben expertly weaves storytelling through a dynamic musical performance. Many of his works are based on artist residencies and fellowships in natural areas across the country including Acadia National Park, Isle Royale National Park, White Mountain National Forest, Harvard University, Middlebury College, the New England National Scenic Trail, the Schmidt Ocean Institute, NASA, and the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology. Songs from Ben’s fourth studio album, The Trouble With Wilderness, an evocation of various expressions of nature and wildness within the built environment, will be performed. These works have been called "beautiful and fascinating" (The Maine Edge), "deeply impressive" (Independent Clauses), and "immediately evocative and fully arresting... brim[ming] with technical mastery and emotional capital" (Seven Days). More about Ben and his work is atwww.bencosgrove.com.The concert will take place at the Columbia Springs property – a forested 100acre natural in Vancouver. The audience will enjoy a forested atmosphere near a covered pavilion as the sun sets over the property.
This is an all-ages show with a variety of ticket prices available from $5-$50, including an option to attend a special artist meet and greet after party in the green room with wine, beer, and food.
